In the following years, Escher produced his most famous art but kept coming back to his main obsession of plane filling to do another tessellation or two. He numbered them all and by his death had produced 137.

Most are crudely finished and seldom taken to perfection like his other work unless the two streams combined in a hybrid design like 'reptiles'...
