Then he visited Italy where he met Jetta, his future wife. They started a family and stayed until 1938 - mostly in Rome.

During this time, he toured about, especially along the southern coastline, and produced some of his most memorable landscape work. Many of these are viewed from dizzy angles with amazing perspective.
