how to make platonic solids

Star theme decoration on the surface of a do-it-yourself dodecahedron flat pentagons make a dodecahedron (a platonic solid)

Is this a tessellation? Yes, if we say it's made from stars and parallelograms, or from triangles and parallelograms.

If, however, we call the white spaces "gaps" and the small stars are floating in space instead of fitting tightly together without gaps or overlaps, then this is NOT a tessellation.

Tessellations are tricky, aren't they. Have a look at this tessellation cleverness test, if you'd like to see whether you can guess what's a tessellation...and what's not.
